Mono or mononucleosis is a condition that is caused by Epstein Barr virus. This virus belongs to the herpes family and causes symptoms that include sore throat, fever and malaise. Mono treatment may not involve extensive antiviral medicines as these many not provide any significant effect.

Mono treatment may include medicine to treat problems like strep throat. For this penicillin or erythromycin may be prescribed. Amoxicillin and ampicillin ought to be avoided as many patients tend to develop rash while taking these medicines. For fever acetaminophen can be prescribed and this can also be effective in treating body aches associated with this condition.
